What to check before you claim any offer

Every platform writes its own rules, and the headline figure is rarely the full story. These are the six things worth checking before you sign up for any welcome offer.

  1. Who can claimMost offers are for new customers only, and some platforms treat anyone who has ever held an account, even a closed one, as an existing customer.
  2. The deposit and the deadlineCheck how much you need to pay in, which payment methods count, and how many days you have to do it.
  3. Which accounts qualifySome offers exclude certain accounts, such as cash ISAs, or pay the reward into a different account from the one you opened.
  4. How the reward is valuedFree shares are often chosen at random, with lower values far more likely than higher ones. Look for the published odds rather than the headline maximum.
  5. Lock-ups and holding periodsSome rewards cannot be withdrawn for a set time, and some offers ask you to keep your deposit invested for months.
  6. Whether the platform suits you anywayOver the years you hold an account, fees and features matter far more than a one-off reward. Our UK broker fees calculator and Find My Broker tool can help you compare.

How we choose and check offers

We only list offers from investing platforms that are authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. Every offer is checked against the provider’s own terms and Help Centre pages, and each card shows the date we last checked it. We recheck live offers at least monthly and whenever a provider changes its terms.

Cards are ordered by how useful we think each offer is for a typical YourWalletManager reader, not by what we earn. When an offer ends, its card stays on the page and is marked as ended. We do not list offers on CFDs or other leveraged trading products, because FCA rules ban firms from offering bonuses and incentives on CFDs to retail clients.

Some links on this page are affiliate links and some are referral links, which may earn us a commission or a free fractional share at no extra cost to you. This never changes which offers we list, the order of the cards or what we say about an offer. Read more in our review methodology.

Free share offers FAQ

They are welcome offers where an investing platform gives new customers a free share, or part of one, for opening and funding an account. The share is usually chosen at random and its value varies, so check the published odds and the provider's terms before you sign up.

You do not pay for the share itself, but you usually need to deposit money to qualify, and there may be rules about when you can withdraw its value. Once credited, the share is an investment and can fall in value. Capital at risk.

Usually, yes. Each platform sets its own rules, so you can normally claim one welcome offer per platform as long as you are a new customer of each. Most platforms allow only one promo code or invite link per customer.

They can. Trading 212, for example, says reward shares placed in a Stocks and Shares ISA count towards your £20,000 annual ISA allowance. Check each provider's terms for how it treats rewards.

Many offers run for a fixed period. When one ends, we keep its card on this page and mark it as ended, then update it when the provider launches a new offer.

Sometimes. Some links are affiliate links that may pay us a commission, and others are referral links that may earn us a free fractional share. It costs you nothing extra and does not affect which offers we list or how we order them.

FCA rules ban firms from offering bonuses and incentives on CFDs to retail clients, so we do not list any. CFDs are complex, leveraged products and most retail accounts lose money trading them.

Risk disclaimer

Offers are set by each provider and can change, end early or be withdrawn at any time. The provider's own terms always take precedence over anything on this page, so check them before you sign up. Free shares are investments: once credited, their value can go down as well as up.

Tax treatment depends on your individual circumstances and ISA rules may change. If you are unsure whether a product is right for you, seek advice from an FCA authorised adviser.
