Frequently asked questions
What fees does this calculator include?
It includes dealing commission, currency conversion (FX) fees on overseas trades, UK Stamp Duty Reserve Tax on UK share purchases, and the £1 PTM levy on UK trades over £10,000. The annual view also adds platform or account fees, withdrawal fees and inactivity charges where they apply. It does not include fund manager (OCF) charges built into ETFs, or any spread, as these vary by individual product.
Why do UK shares cost the same at several brokers?
When several brokers charge zero commission on UK shares, the only unavoidable cost left is the 0.5% government Stamp Duty, which is identical everywhere, so they tie. The differences appear on overseas trades, where FX fees vary widely, and over a full year once platform and account fees are counted.
Is stamp duty charged on ETFs and US shares?
No. UK Stamp Duty Reserve Tax applies only to purchases of UK-listed shares. Most ETFs are exempt, and US or EU shares are not subject to UK stamp duty (though other markets may have their own levies). Stamp duty is also only charged when you buy, never when you sell.
Do these brokers offer an ISA or SIPP?
ISA and SIPP availability differs by provider and is shown on each broker's card. Some offer a fully native, fee-free ISA; others provide access through a partner, which can carry separate management fees. None of the brokers shown offers a native SIPP, though some support one via a third-party administrator. Always read the full review for the current detail.
How accurate are these figures?
Fees are modelled from each provider's published rates and verified on the date shown below. Brokers change pricing regularly, and per-share pricing depends on the share price you enter, so treat the results as a close estimate for comparison rather than an exact quote. Always confirm the current cost on the provider's own website before investing.
Your capital is at risk. The value of investments can go down as well as up and you may get back less than you invest. This tool provides general information to help you compare costs and is not financial advice or a personal recommendation. Fee estimates are for illustration only, so always confirm current charges on the provider's website. YourWalletManager may earn a commission from some providers featured here. This never influences the rankings, which are ordered purely by the calculated cost of your trade.
